Humanities News, or Lack Thereof

Updated: Nov 3, 2020

The 2020-2021 school year has been off to a very unusual start. Online learning has led to a whole host of new problems, and due to the lack of social interaction in general, there is not much going on. While some things have remained the same from in-person school to online school, many things are vastly different.

One thing that has been able to stay somewhat the same is the Humanities’ very own Student Planning Council. The Council was able to follow through with electing new members and filling cabinet positions. One difference about the council is the activities that they used to organize are no longer able to be done in person. School tours, which take place every Tuesday in October, are now conducted over Zoom for the first time ever.

One other constant at Hamilton this school year was Club Rush. Even though it was all online, as opposed to on the quad, clubs were still able to reach out to students and gain new members. One club we recommend joining is the Humanities Vitruvian, the student-run newspaper you are currently reading. But with over 80 clubs at Hamilton, there is certainly something for everybody!

Meanwhile, the Senior Project is a Humanities tradition that has been around for ages. Yet with the COVID-19 epidemic, many thought that the Senior Project would be cancelled. But Dr. Yah, the Humanities Counselor, as well as Ms. Press, the Humanities Coordinator, have found a way to keep the tradition alive. Even though it will be optional this year, the Senior Project still allows seniors a way to take part in a Humanities rite of passage.
