2020 NBA Draft

The 2020 National Basketball Association draft happened on November 18, 2020. This year, the draft was held via video conferencing in the ESPN facility in Bristol, Connecticut, instead of Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, under the original plan. A quick explanation of the NBA draft: it is a chance for all teams in the NBA to choose new players that are eligible to play in the league. Teams with worse records in the previous season have a higher chance of getting a higher pick in the draft.

This year, the Minnesota Timberwolves got the first pick and they went with shooting guard Anthony Edwards. One major win in the draft was the 76ers trading Al Horford to the Thunder and, in the end, getting Danny Green and Terrance Ferguson. The 76ers also traded Josh Richardson to the Mavericks for Seth Curry. Another major win was the Sacramento Kings selecting Tyrese Haliburton at No. 12. The Brooklyn Nets were also lucky this draft trading the No. 19 picks to the Chippers in exchange for Landry Shamet. The Nets also have Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant coming off of injuries.

One of the losses in this draft was the Phoenix Suns when they took Jalen Smith at No. 10 overall. The reason why this was an odd choice was that the Suns already have the center DeAndre Ayton who was the No. 1 pick in 2018. Another loss was the Charlotte Hornets with their pick of LaMelo Ball because he had never competed in NCAA basketball or any of the top European Leagues. One of the major concerns with Ball is his shooting ability. Also, the Hornets already have Teddy Rozier and Devonte Graham, who are both ball-dominant guards, so they did not need another. The Chicago Bulls were another loser with their No. 4 picks of Patrick Williams. Williams is a great playmaker and defender but he did not start during last season at Florida State and his shot is 32.3 percent from beyond the arc.

This year, the NBA looked very different. This season ended in October with a win for the Lakers. Although this year's NBA draft was unlike any other in history, overall, it had a lot of talent and a lot of winners.
